what is inclusive yoga?
At the Jamie Surya Yoga Studio we believe Yoga should be accessible to every and anybody. Yoga is a practice that can always be adapted and modified to fit any individuals needs. It is our mission to offer Yoga and meditation to as many populations as we can. If you have any suggestions on specialty classes you would like to see or attend, feel free to email us.
The Jamie Surya Yoga Studio also offers Trauma Sensitive Yoga which includes anxiety, depression, eating disorders and substance abuse. We also offer a Trauma Sensitive Yoga Course for yoga teachers, therapists, health care providers, and healers, so we can spread this inclusivity to our community.
The Jamie Surya Yoga Studio prides itself on being a safe space for everyone. We welcome individuals despite their background, race, religion, or sexual orientation.
We are a proud supporter of the Rockland County Pride Center in Nyack, NY and honor the work they are doing for our LGBTQ community.
We are proud to be the first and only Yoga studio in New York State to be in partnership with the LoveYourBrain Foundation, a non-profit that aims to improve the quality of life of people affected by traumatic brain injury. Here at the Jamie Surya Yoga Studio, we offer the Fundamentals Yoga Series, which includes meditation, yoga, breath work and facilitated group discussion, to individuals who have had traumatic injuries and their caregivers free of charge, with the goal of then having them join in on LoveYourBrain Friendly group classes.
Our teachers Jamie Surya, Andres Alves, Leigh LaBrake,and Jen Gennaro are all certified by the LoveYourBrain (LYB) Foundation to teach specific LYB classes and adapt certain classes on our schedule to be LYB friendly.

LYB friendly classes are existing classes offered at Jamie Surya Yoga Studio that have been identified as accessible for the TBI community and are taught by teachers who have completed the LoveYourBrain training.
We require all students to attend one our 6-week FUNdamentals series before accessing the LYB friendly classes. This allows the opportunity for teachers to understand an individual’s physical abilities and level, and make suggestions on which LYB friendly classes may be suitable.
