Jamie Surya Alves, Owner & Founder
Jamie embarked on her yoga journey during her teenage years, seeking comfort from the inevitable pain that comes with life. Her initial interest in meditation and yogic philosophy naturally evolved into a dedicated asana practice. In 2012, at the age of 20, she opened the Jamie Surya Yoga Studio in Sparkill, NY, with the hopes of sharing this transformative practice that had so deeply impacted her life.
This journey led her to deeper studies in trauma informed yoga, yoga for anxiety, depression, disordered eating, and substance misuse, as well as adapting the practice for various neurological diagnoses and traumatic brain injuries. These studies have allowed her teaching to be adaptive, accessible, and safe for so many.
She is an activist at heart, and is always using her voice to advocate for humans and animals. She is the Co-Founder, Executive Director, President, and lead Wildlife Rehabilitator of Rockland Wildlife Rescue & Rehabilitation, a local nonprofit dedicated to the rescue, rehab, and release of injured and orphaned wild animals.
Expect kindness, acceptance, smiles, and a deep dedication to this practice when taking her classes.
Our Mantra:
If we know anything about a path at all, it's only because of the great ones who have gone before us. And out of their love and kindness, they've left footprints for us to follow. So in the same way that they wished for us, we wish that all beings everywhere be free, safe, in good health, and have enough to eat.
